With the 105th pick of the 2017 MLB Draft…. The World Champion Chicago Cubs select… Keegan Thompson, a right-handed pitcher from Auburn University. Auburn ace Keegan Thompson was drafted in the third round of this year’s MLB Draft to the Chicago Cubs, a huge step forward from last year’s draft, where he was taken in the 33rd round by the Detroit Tigers. In his first year removed from Tommy John surgery, Thompson anchored a weekend rotation that was considered to be one of the best in the Southeastern Conference. Along with Casey Mize and Davis Daniel, Auburn’s weekend rotation combined to strikeout 245 batters while walking only 52 and allowing 19 home runs. Thompson finished 2017 with a 7-4 record, a 2.41 ERA, 75 strikeouts, and 17 walks in 15 starts. Thompson missed just one-weekend start, March 31 against South Carolina, after exiting his outing against Georgia early due to injury precaution. This story will be updated.
