With football season just shy of 100 days from beginning, many awards watch lists are beginning to appear. On Monday, it was announced that one Auburn offensive lineman has caught the attention of one postseason award committee. Austin Golson, a rising senior from Prattville, has been named to the watch list for the Rimington Award, the prize given to the nation’s top center at season’s end. Over the last two seasons, Golson has anchored an offensive line that has had a hand in producing 440 yards per game (271 rushing, 169 passing) in 2016, and 370 yards per game (196 rushing, 173 passing) in 2015. Golson’s career at Auburn has had ups and downs. He began 2015 as a starting center before exiting the Georgia game with a leg injury. He then opened the 2016 season as a left guard before nudging his way back to center for the final nine games of the season. Prior to Auburn, Golson was a part of an offensive line at Ole Miss that helped produce 6,153 yards, which at the time was a school record. Golson joins the watch list with seven other players from the SEC, including Frank Ragnow at Arkansas, and Alabama’s Bradley Bozeman.
