Despite the NCAA Men’s Final Four concluding two weeks ago, it is never too early to discuss the 2017-18 season.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports broke news on the website “fanragsports.com” on Tuesday that Auburn and Dayton have scheduled a home-and-home series slated to begin this season in Ohio, date pending.
This series should draw interest in multiple ways for Auburn fans:
1. The consistency of Dayton reaching the postseason would help Auburn’s RPI down the stretch
2. The last two recruiting classes that Auburn has signed is considered to be the best in school history, a win at Dayton this season would officially put Auburn on the map.
3. Former Alabama Head Coach Anthony Grant is now the Head Coach at Dayton following Archie Miller’s hiring at Indiana.
Dayton joins UAB and Middle Tennessee as non-conference games that Auburn has scheduled for the 2017-18 season. The Tigers will also compete in the Charleston Classic, which features the likes of Clemson, Hofstra, Old Dominion, Temple, Ohio, and Indiana State. Dayton is also scheduled to appear at the Charleston Classic, however, they are on the opposite side of the bracket from Auburn, meaning that the two would have to make it to the championship round of the tournament to face one another twice next season.
