After taking two of three from Presbyterian in the final weekend series prior to conference play, the Auburn Baseball Tigers will host two in-state rivals in mid-week action, beginning Tuesday with UAB at Plainsman Park. The Tigers fell to the Blue Hose on Friday after allowing seven runs in the top of the 9th inning, 11-8. Auburn stormed back to defeat Presbyterian on Saturday and Sunday to earn the series win. Freshman Davis Daniel had a career day on the mound in Sunday’s win. In six innings, he struck out eight and did not allow a run, picking up his first win as a Tiger. Jay Estes hit .455 in the series, while Josh Anthony and Daniel Robert each collected five RBI. The series win moved Auburn to 12-5 on the season. UAB enters Tuesday’s game winners of five straight, 11-5 overall. Since losing two of three to Georgia in a low-scoring series in Athens March 3-5, the Blazers swept a doubleheader against Alabama A&M and swept a three-game series against UL-Monroe all at Birmingham’s Regions Park. Player to watch in the game is outfielder Brewer Hicklen. Hicklen, who is also a wide receiver for UAB’s football team, is leading the team in average with .345. He also has the team’s lone home run on the season. Stephen Dobbs is batting .225 with 10 RBI. Andrew Mitchell is expected to get the nod as Auburn battles UAB in a mid-week meeting at Plainsman Park on Tuesday. First pitch scheduled for 3 P.M.
