Auburn Baseball returned to the diamond on Tuesday to face South Alabama for the first of two midweek games at Plainsman Park. The visiting Jaguars’ bats became an issue for Auburn in the middle innings, as they would defeat the Tigers, 14-3.

Freshman Christian Camacho got the nod for the first time in his career on Tuesday, and had a successful outing, tossing 4 innings of three-hit baseball on 46 pitches. Camacho was relieved after two batters into the fourth inning, after allowing a leadoff home run to South Alabama’s Eddie Paparella and walking Brendan Donovan in the following sequence. Donovan would later score in the inning, moving Camacho’s final line to 2 earned runs and a walk to two strikeouts.

Elliot Anderson relieved Camacho, and would not finish the inning after facing seven batters, allowing three hits and four earned runs in ⅔ of an inning. Grant Warner would relieve Anderson, closing out the inning.

After scoring six runs in the 5th inning, the Jaguars tacked on five more in the 6th to extend their lead to 11-0. Warner and Joe Gahm pitched in the inning, Warner was charged with two earned runs in ⅓ of an inning. Gahm allowed 4 earned runs in an inning of work.

The Tigers finally reached the scoreboard in the bottom half of the sixth inning, when Dylan Ingram and Josh Anthony sent a total of three runs across the plate to cut into the South Alabama lead, 11-3.

The momentum was short lived, as the Jaguars scored three more runs in the 7th inning to cap scoring.

Due to lightning and heavy rain in the area, the game was called in the top of the eighth inning, with South Alabama earning the win. Camacho picked up the loss, moving his record to 0-1.

Josh Anthony was the top performer, going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Auburn moves to 9-4 overall. The second mid-week game in as many days comes tomorrow, as Auburn battles Kennesaw State Wednesday at 3 PM.
