As the Women’s Basketball season makes its’ final turn towards the postseason, the Southeastern Conference announced their annual awards on Tuesday morning. One Auburn Tiger was recognized for three different honors. Senior Katie Frerking was honored for both her academics, as well as her play on the court by the league office. Frerking was named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year after being a regular on the SEC Academic Honor Roll as well as the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for two straight seasons. Frerking is the second Tiger in a calendar year to be named Scholar-Athlete of the year, Softball’s Kasey Cooper won the honor in 2016. As an athlete, Frerking leads Auburn in a number of major categories including scoring (16 ppg), rebounding (6.4 rpg), and steals (2.5 spg). That performance led her to a spot on both the SEC Second Team and SEC All-Defensive team. Next up for Frerking and the Tigers is a trip to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina to participate in the SEC Tournament. Auburn hits the hardwood on Thursday at 11 A.M. to face Georgia.
