For the first time in seven days, Auburn Women’s Basketball returns to the hardwood to do battle with Tennessee Thursday night inside Auburn Arena. Auburn moved to 3-1 on the year in SEC play after defeating Vanderbilt 64-59 in Nashville last Thursday. The Tigers used a strong second half effort in multiple ways to defeat the Commodores, including not committing a single turnover in the second half after recording 12 in the first two-quarters of play. Senior Brandy Montgomery scored all 16 of her points in the second half, and Auburn overcame a 17-point deficit in the third quarter in the win. Katie Frerking led the way with 18 points and three steals, Montgomery’s 16 was second, and Janiah McKay was the third Tiger to score double-figures, with 13 points. McKay also led the team in rebounds with four. The Lady Vols of Tennessee enters the contest with a 2-2 record in SEC play, win an overall record of 11-6. Tennessee took a break from conference action earlier this week, and downed Notre Dame on Monday, 71-69 behind Diamond DeShields 8 fourth quarter points. In SEC play, the Lady Volunteers have defeated Kentucky and Vanderbilt, and have fallen to Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Tennessee is currently on a two-game losing skid in conference action. Deshields leads Tennessee by scoring 16 points per contest. Mercedes Russell is key in defensive play, as she leads in rebounds with 9.3 and blocks with 1.7. On the offensive side of the ball, Jordan Reynolds leads the team in assists with 4.4, and records 1.6 steals per game. Auburn faces Tennessee Thursday evening at Auburn Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 P.M.
