Fresh off of their second SEC tournament championship in a row, and a stellar Women’s College World Series run, Auburn Softball looks to be a serious championship threat in 2017 according to SEC coaches. After a vote between all 13 SEC Head Coaches, Auburn has been picked to finish second in the SEC heading into the season. Second place is the highest prediction for Auburn Softball in the Clint Myers era. In 2015, the Tigers were projected to finish seventh and were picked to finish third last season. Despite losing key athletes in Tiffany Howard and Emily Carosone, Auburn returns plenty of talent for the 2017 season. Some of those names include Makayla Martin and Kaylee Carlson in the circle, as well as Kasey Cooper, Carlee Wallace, and Victoria Draper in the lineup and field. The Tigers open the season in 21 days, when they visit sunny Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the action-packed Triple Crown Tournament. In their opening day (February 9), Auburn will get a rematch with their Women’s College World Series Championship foe, Oklahoma. After that, Auburn will battle Nebraska. Auburn will play their first home game of the season on February 16, to open the Plainsman Invitational against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
