Auburn Returns to the Court Sunday to face Savannah State

After having eleven days off, the Auburn Women’s Basketball team (6-2) will return to the court to face Savannah State on Sunday at 2 P.M. inside Auburn Arena. In their last game, a loss to Kansas State in the SEC/Big XII Challenge, senior Katie Frerking led the way with 22 points, six rebounds, and was a perfect 6-6 at the free throw line. Janiah McKay and Brandy Montgomery each contributed, by scoring in the double-digits. Savannah State enters the contest with a 2-6 record, 0-3 away from home. The Tigers average 54.4 points per game, they shoot 32.6% from the field, and 25.3% from three-point land. The players to watch are Lauren Moss and Tiyonda Davis. Moss leads the team in points per (13.5), assists (2.5), and three-point percentage (.330). Davis is key to their defense, as she leads the team in rebounds (8.3), steals, (1.7), blocks (3.6), and field goal percentage (.488). The only advantage has to Auburn, is rebounding. Savannah State averages 40.5 rebounds per game, while Auburn averages 36.1. This will be the third all-time meeting between Auburn and Savannah State. Last season, Auburn defeated Savannah State on the road 62-40 behind a solid outing from Brandy Montgomery, Tra’cee Tanner, and Jonika Garvin. Montgomery nailed 16 points, while Tanner and Garvin recorded 12 each. Katie Frerking is having a season to remember through eight games, as she leads the team in rebounds (8.5), steals (3.4), rebounds (3.4), field goal percentage (.420), and three-point percentage (.325). Brandy Montgomery is the team’s leading scorer with 15.5 per outing. Auburn hosts Savannah State this Sunday at 2 P.M. inside Auburn Arena.
