Auburn and Arkansas are currently tied for second place in the SEC. Each team is 6-1 in conference play, and each team has 18 total points. That will change by the time the day ends. #14 Auburn Soccer will play their only match of the weekend this evening, against a tough Arkansas team, who is ranked 10th in the nation. Auburn has momentum heading into the match, having won 5 straight. Arkansas is coming off of their first conference loss of the season, a 3-1 decision to 4th-ranked South Carolina. The Razorbacks have key wins over solid opponents, including (at the time) #2 Duke, and #4 Florida. The key player to watch for Arkansas is senior midfielder, Claire Kelly. Kelly is the team leader in most categories, including goals (6), assists (10), and points (22). Her 10 assists lead the nation. Kelly was responsible for Arkansas’ lone goal in last Sunday’s loss to South Carolina when she scored from inside the box in the 36th minute. Two Tigers earned individual honors following last weekend’s sweep of Mississippi State and Kentucky. Bri Folds earned Freshman of the Week, and senior Brooke Ramsier was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week. Kristen Dodson had another great weekend, as she scored two of Auburn’s six goals against Kentucky, and Mississippi State. History is on Auburn’s side this weekend. In their last 10 meetings, Auburn has defeated Arkansas 9 times and has a 10-1 record all-time against the Razorbacks inside the Auburn Soccer Complex. An Auburn win tonight would give them six wins in a row, which has not been accomplished since 2004. The top-15 battle between Arkansas and Auburn gets underway tonight at 7 P.M. inside the Auburn Soccer Complex.
