Auburn hit the road this weekend for their first SEC road trip of the season, and returned to Auburn on Sunday night with two wins.
History was made on Thursday night, when Auburn traveled to Gainesville to battle the Florida Gators. Two goals by Kristen Dodson, and another by Courtney Schell, moved Auburn passed Florida, 3-0. The 3-0 victory was the largest deficit that Auburn soccer has beaten Florida in school history, and it was also the first time that Florida had been shut out by Auburn in their program’s history.
“Florida is an incredible program,” said Head Coach Karen Hoppa, following the win. “That’s the reason this win is so special.”
The other take away from this game, is that Auburn kept Florida’s Savannah Jordan from hitting a shot on goal. Jordan entered the weekend at the top of several individual categories in the conference.
Auburn would then shift their focus to Athens, Georgia, for a match up with Georgia. Dodson again would have a big day, her two goals and two assists led Auburn to a 4-2 victory.
Dodson played a role in each of the Tigers goals on Sunday. Auburn was down 2-1 at halftime, with the lone goal in the half coming off the foot of Casie Ramsier in the 15th minute, with assists going to Dodson and Bri Folds. Dodson would tie the game just four minutes into the second half, and would add her second goal in the 61st minute. Dodson was also key in Auburn’s final goal, as she assisted Bri Folds in the 84th minute to seal the deal.
Auburn moves to 7-4 overall, and 3-1 in SEC play. Next weekend, Auburn will host Missouri on Friday night at 7PM.
