Home field advantage was not enough for Auburn Soccer last weekend, as they fell to Iowa State and Southern California during the Auburn Soccer Classic.

Iowa State, USC, and Georgia were on the Plains this weekend for the Auburn Soccer Classic. Auburn faced the likes of Iowa State on Friday night, and fell to the Cyclones, 1-0. Iowa State scored their first and only goal of the game, when Emily Steil assisted redshirt freshman Kasey Opfer cross from the corner in the 46th minute.

Despite taking 19 shots during the game, the closest that Auburn got to scoring, was a 25 yard shot from senior Brooke Ramsier that struck the top of the goal, and fired down without crossing the line.

Auburn would battle USC on Sunday to round out the tournament. Auburn took 13

shots, with 8 being on goal. However, failed to score for the second straight game, as they fell to the Trojans, 2-0.

Both of Southern Cal’s goals were unassisted. The first goal came from Nicole Molen from ten yards out in the 25th minute. Alex Anthony scored the decisive goal in the 76th minute from inside the box.

“I’m really proud of our team,” said head coach Karen Hoppa following the USC match. “I thought we played some great soccer. Obviously, USC is a great team and really well-coached. I thought it was just a really quality soccer game and we were unlucky to not finish our chances, but give credit to USC. They scored on two corners and were able to come out of here with a win.”

In Sunday’s game, Casie Ramsier and Ellie Leek led the team, each having 2 shots on goal.

Auburn ends the weekend with a 3-3 record. Auburn opens conference play at 6PM this Friday against Vanderbilt. The Tigers will then step out of SEC play on Sunday, to face the Baylor Bears of the Big 12.
