There is always room for baseball talk, even if first pitch is over five months away.

Auburn Head Baseball Coach Butch Thompson announced Wednesday the 2017 schedule for his team, which will see the Tigers play 21 straight games inside the state of Alabama, 17 of those will be played at Plainsman Park.

Auburn will host George Washington University for a three-game series to open the season beginning February 17, and ending on the 19th. In-state foe Jacksonville State will come to town on February 21st for the first midweek game of the season. The next day, Florida A&M will visit the Plains. The following weekend, the Tigers host Holy Cross for a three game set, before welcoming in Samford on February 28th.

When the calendar turns to March, Auburn will host a weekend series (March 3-5) with Lipscomb, before hosting South Alabama on March 7. The final non-conference weekend series will take place March 10-12 against Oakland University at home.

Other key non-conference matchups take place in March for Auburn. Auburn will travel to Birmingham to face UAB at the home of the Birmingham Barons, Regions Field, on March 14. The Tigers travel to Atlanta on March 21 to face Georgia Tech. Finally, Auburn will battle Alabama in non-conference play during The ninth annual MAX Capital City Classic at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery on March 28. Coach Butch Thompson is pleased with the schedule, primarily, because of how accommodating it is for Auburn alumni and fans who do not live in the Auburn area, to see the Tigers.

“The extra game with Alabama in Montgomery is one of the best college baseball rivalry games in America.” says Thompson, “Our fans in Birmingham also get a chance to come watch us either at Samford or at the beautiful new Regions Field. Also, it’s always good to keep Georgia Tech on the schedule which creates a great opportunity for our huge alumni base in Atlanta to come support. We are really happy with how the schedule came together.”

Auburn will also face Georgia Tech, Troy, and Kennesaw State at home. A return road trip to Samford is also scheduled.

The first SEC series of the season will be at home against 2016 College World Series participant, Florida, March 17-19. Other home conference series will be against South Carolina (March 31-April 2), Arkansas (April 21-23), Alabama (May 5-7) and Ole Miss (May 18-20).

Auburn’s first SEC road trip will be to Athens to battle the Bulldogs of Georgia March 24-26. Auburn will also hit the road this season to face Texas A&M (April 7-9), Tennessee (April 14-16), Mississippi State (April 28-30) and LSU (May 12-14).

All in all, Auburn will host 36 games at Plainsman Park this upcoming season.

“Excited to offer Auburn fans another 36 home games at Plainsman Park,” Thompson said. “They have been so supportive of our program and consistently rank in the top 25 in home attendance and we appreciate that. The home SEC portion of the schedule should also be very exciting for our fans with some really quality teams coming in.”

Head Coach Butch Thompson will begin his second season at Auburn in 2017. In his first season, Auburn finished with a record of 23-33 overall.
